June Ikeda

Photo of June Ikeda

June Sumie Ijiri Ikeda came to stay with us at Caring House, and we were honored to welcome her and her family.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, June was the seventh and youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Ijiri. She attended McKinley High School, and then continued her education at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, Hawaii, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. That is where she met her beloved husband Tamotsu (Tamo) Ikeda.

The two moved to Los Angeles and eventually settled in Torrance, where they raised their children, Gwenn and Winston. June was blessed with a kind, loving and close-knit family, whom she adored – and they her – and she was a proud grandparent to her three granddaughters.

June worked as a teller at Bank of America, and she was quite involved at her church, where she served as President and started a senior group. She also enjoyed sewing and cake decorating, and her family said she excelled in both.

June joined us at the age of 92, and Tamo joked that she liked younger men… he was one year her junior! We are so grateful we were able to provide comfort, compassion and support for June and her sweet family. Each and every one of them left an impression on us as they doted on their wife, mother and grandmother while she was with us, and we know she lives on in their hearts and in the loving memories they shared together.
